The Sacandaga Valley Arts Network will be featuring a painting demonstration by Constance A. Dodge at the SVAN Gallery & Gift Shop located at 303 S. Main St. in Northville on Saturday, July 21st. All are welcome to stop by and visit with Connie, as she is known, about her career in the arts and to watch her paint. Connie will work outside the SVAN Gallery & Gift Shop, weather permitting, or outside the Gallery in the event of rain.

From her website, www.constanceadodge.com, Dodge conveys that her paintings are “inspired not only by the light and color in nature, but also by (her) inner vision embracing archetypal images. Much of my work in oils portrays glimpses of the human condition. My love of drawing is met by working with Pastels, which allows me the freedom to capture the immediacy of the moment. ‘For Me, Art is Spirit.’”

Dodge “has taught Fine Arts for thirty-one years,” dedicating the majority of her experience to “developing the artistic talents of high school students.” However, taught full time at Adirondack Community College for two years, and she has been an adjunct instructor at Sage Junior College, the College of Saint Rose, Empire State College, and Goddard College.

For twenty-three years, Dodge’s permanent exhibit space was the Amos Eno Gallery in New York City. Her work appears in many private collections, both nationally and internationally including the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington D.C. and Artpool in Budapest, Hungary. Her work has also appeared in New York Magazine. Regionally, she is a professional member of the Guild of Adirondack Artists and the former Director of the Oakroom Artists, a group in existence for 52 years.

Ms. Dodge’s education includes a BS in Art Education from Nazareth College of Rochester, an MFA with Distinction from Catholic University of America, Washington, D. C., and two years of additional graduate study in art history at the State University of New York in Albany. Among her many honors is the distinction of being selected for a fellowship at the Millay Colony for the Arts. She also received a Special Opportunity Grant from the New York Foundation for the Arts, and in 2002 she was awarded a New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Grant through the Saratoga County Arts Council. Dodge is the recipient of the 2003 Award in oil painting from the Cooperstown National juried art exhibit. Dodge also served on the Board of Directors of the Sacandaga Valley Arts Network for several years and procured grants to teach painting and drawing in upstate New York.

The SVAN Gallery & Gift Shop at 303 South Main Street in Northville, showcases and sells artwork of members of the Sacandaga Valley Arts Network, and is open on Fridays 4pm-8pm, Saturdays 10am-3pm, and Sundays 11am-1pm. The Gallery may also be found open at various other times based on availability of volunteer staffing or for special events.

“SVAN is grateful to the First United Methodist congregation in Northville for its generous gift of providing the Arts Center a home for its member-artists’ creative works.” To become a member of SVAN and help enrich our community with visual and performing arts, please visit our website at www.svanarts.org. If you are member of SVAN and would like to have your work displayed and/or sold at the SVAN Gallery & Gift Shop in Northville (formerly known as the SVAN Northville Arts Center), please contact the Gallery & Gift Shop Coordinator, Sandra Peters, at 725-8861. Gloversville, NY – Fulton County Center for Regional Growth is excited to announce the return of the Cavalcade of Champions Drum Corps Exhibition on July 22, 2018!

It’s been 30 years since Fulton County has heard the exciting sounds of the drum corps and the show is expected to welcome them back with style. The Cavalcade of Champions will be a high-energy choreographed performance featuring dozens of marching drummers, brass musicians and costumed color guard performers.

The Cavalcade of Champions will be held on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Husky Football Field. Tickets are available online at www.fccrg.org/events-in-fulton-county/cavalcade-of-champions/ or at local venues and will also be available at the gate. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for a 7 p.m. show.

Four of the country’s top corps will be performing in Husky Football Field at Gloversville’s Park Terrace School 50 Bloomingdale Avenue, Gloversville, NY. The stadium gates open to spectators at 5:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:00 p.m.

The corps are competing for a place in this year’s DCI Nationals Finals and will be performing their 2018 repertoires. The four competing corps are:

7th Regiment of New London, CT 7th Regiment takes its name from the last Civil War unit to leave Fort Trumbull in the corps’ hometown. After first competing in 2003, “7R” has been an Open Class finalist each year since 2009 and is the current three time defending DCI Drum Line Battle Champion. 7th Regiment proudly represents the local community in New London and the state of Connecticut. They will perform In a Different Light.

Legends of Kalamazoo, MI. Established in 2006, Legends Performing Arts sponsors the Legends Drum & Bugle Corps, Legends Drum Corps Open (Southwest Michigan DCI event), and Legends Drum Corps Invitational (Southeast Michigan DCI event). First competing at the DCI World Championships in 2008, Legends has been recognized with an impressive string of Most Improved Open Class Corps awards in 2009, 2012, and 2015. The Kalamazoo based group has finished as an Open Class Finalist every year since 2009 and recently was an Open Class Bronze Medalist in 2016 and 2017. The Legends will be performing “Along Came a Spider.”

Raiders of Burlington, NJ. The New Jersey-based Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps was founded in 1990. First competing regionally in 1991, the group made its inaugural trip to the DCI World Championships a year later. A finalist in its division every year since 2001, Raiders won the DCI Division III World Championship title in 2005. The drum corps operates as part of the A+ Education and Performing Arts organization. The Raiders will perform Beowulf: Rise of a Legend.

The Spartans of Nashua, NH. The Spartans have laid claim to four DCI Division II World Championship titles since its founding in 1955, most recently in 2007. The corps has earned numerous silver and bronze medals and was the 1999 Spirit of Disney award winner.
