The Afro-Carribean Jazz Collective was founded in 2017 in the Urbana – Champaign area of Illinois and has been broadcasted on the radio and streaming services in Colombia, Puerto Rico, Brazil, and across the US.

They are a seven-piece ensemble that started collaborating during their graduate studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In 2020, they were awarded the Urbana Arts Grant to compose and arrange new music for the ensemble, where they explored several Afro-Cuban and Puerto Rican rhythms with modern jazz language. The Afro-Caribbean Jazz Collective’s upbeat music is a re-imagining of the Latin Jazz ensemble by using the electric guitar and sound effects in place of the piano.
