The Mayfield Historical Society will be holding a “Family Day at The Rice Homestead” on Saturday, August 13th, from 11 am – 3 pm. Musical entertainment, a petting zoo, face painting, and local craftspeople demonstrating their craft such as blacksmithing, weaving, and woodworking as well as other crafts will be on hand. Families and children can participate in old fashioned children’s games and experience hands-on 19th century activities. Food and beverages will be available including hot dogs with the Secret Recipe Meat Sauce from Lee’s Snack Bar in Mayfield, a one-time favorite hang-out in Mayfield across from the high school. Lee Goulet opened the restaurant in 1955 and the family ran it until the 1980’s. The family has given the Mayfield Historical Society its secret meat sauce recipe for use at special events.
