A “Meet the Artists” reception will be held on Friday, January 12, from 5 to 7pm at Micropolis Cooperative Art Gallery in Gloversville, NY. Photographer and sculptor Larry VanAlstyne, guest artist for January and February, will be on hand to introduce a collection of his work.
Larry began taking photos in 1969 when he was in the Air Force. When he returned to the area he studied photography under Frank Ambrose at Fulton-Montgomery Community College.
For over 35 years his work was included in the annual May Show held at the First Congregational Church in Gloversville and for 5 years at the Montgomery County Arts Council Show.
Currently Larry shows both his sculpture and his photographs in Cooperstown at the Cooperstown Art Association and at The Smithy Gallery. In Saratoga Springs his work can be seen in exhibitions at Saratoga Arts and at the Spa Fine Arts Gallery.
Larry states “I do art to help people see some beauty in their lives. I also do it for myself because it is a part of me.”
A new show of artwork by Micropolis member artists will also be on display in the gallery. Work will include paintings, drawings, photographs, fiber art, batik, mixed media, woodwork, glass, digital art, sculpture, jewelry, and pottery. The show will run through the end of February.
The gallery is located inside Mohawk Harvest Cooperative Market at 30 N. Main St., Gloversville, and is open seven days a week. (MON-FRI 8am-7pm / SAT 8am-5pm / SUN 9am-4pm)
