Musicians of Ma’alwyck is a flexible-size chamber ensemble that specializes in music performed in America during the 18th and 19th centuries, mostly drawn from the Special Collections of the New York State Library. Musicians of Ma’alwyck includes Ann-Marie Barker Schwartz, violinist, founder and director of the group; Sten Isachsen, guitarist; and Norman Thibodeau, flutist. The group has performed for television producer Norman Lear, on NPR, WMHT-FM, WMHT-TV and in the documentary film “Greene County USA.” They were named the best chamber music ensemble of the Capital Region by Metroland in 2008 and 2009 and produced the 1783 opera “The Poor Soldier” by William Shield in 2009. Each member has also achieved acclaim independently and in other groups for performing, producing, composing, recording and teaching music. Musicians of Ma’alwyck is currently in residence at the Schuyler Mansion New York State Historic Site and Schenectady County Community College.
