The Mayfield Historical Society’s 1810 Rice Homestead is open today from 12 noon to 4 pm. It is the home of Oliver Rice, early settler who ran a fulling mill and was a key figure in the little hamlet of Riceville. The Rice Family owned the property for 198 years and many of the contents of the house is original to the family. The property includes a 1790 cabin, smokehouse, spring house, Mayfield History Room, the “Loom Room”, gardens, and picnic tables on its property surrounded by heritage Sugar Maple trees.
