Daytime:

• All day- Cy Durey Day at the Nick Stoner Municipal Golf Course. A day of no greens fees in honor of the centennial of the donation of the lands for the golf course by Cy Durey. Click here for a history of the golf course.
• 8:00 am – 4:00 pm- FFLA Stewards will be available at the Fire Tower to greet hikers.
• 9am-12 pm- Special activities for children participating in the Town of Caroga Summer Youth Program at the Town Hall presented by FFLA. The event will include presentations by Smokey the Bear, Forest Rangers from the DEC, and a fire truck from the Caroga Lake Volunteer Fire Department.
• 1:00- 4:00 pm- Caroga Museum will be open with Fire Tower Exhibit.

Evening:

• 7:00-9:00 pm-  Martin Podskoch, award winning author and historian, will make a presentation on Adirondack Fire Towers sponsored by the Caroga Museum at Sherman’s Park.

Daytime:

• 1:00- 4:00 pm- Caroga Museum will be open with Fire Tower Exhibit.

Evening:

• 7:00 pm- Caroga Arts Collective at Sherman’s Park: Music to celebrate the centennial will feature a full symphony orchestra alongside guest violinist Jeremy Kittel. This is a ticketed event. Click here for more information and tickets.

• 1:00 pm- Caroga Arts Collective in partnership with West Caroga Lake Association will hold a Cornhole Tournament at Sherman’s Park. Click here for more information and registration fees..
• 3:00-5:00 pm- Desserts and Diaries: cake, coffee, and conversation with retired Forest Rangers and Fire Tower Observers, at the Caroga Lake Volunteer Fire Department’s meeting room (3262 NY-29A). Enjoy some birthday cake and beverages while listening to retired Fire Tower Observers and Forest Ranger sharing their experiences on the job. Do the names Hartmann, Miller, Weill, Lee, and Clothier ring a bell? Come hear their recollections and ask questions!

Evening:

• 8:00 pm- Caroga Arts Collective at Sherman’s Park, Pavilion Stage: Cody Fry with Caroga Arts Ensemble and special guest Eddie Barbash. This is a ticketed event. Click here for more information and tickets.

EVENT PARKING INFO:

Parking to Access Kane Mountain Trails During the Centennial Celebration

During the Centennial on August 16 and 17, the Town will close Green Lake Road except for local traffic.

The Kane Mountain trailhead parking area on Green Lake Road will only be open to the Fire Department and Tower Steward Vehicles.  The Fire Department will station their back country rescue vehicles at the trail head parking lot and will provide hot dogs and water during the day.

A Trolley Will Be Running On Saturday and Sunday

The Kane Mountain Express Trolley will be provided by the Town of Caroga on:

Saturday from 8 am to 4pm and

Sunday from 8 am to 2 pm. 

The Trolley will run from Sherman’s Park to the parking areas at across from the  Canada Lake Store (the Marina parking lots) and transport riders to the trail head on Green Lake Road.  The Trolley will go to Pine Lake then back to Green Lake then to Sherman’s.  The Trolley will repeat this loop during the day.

Riders can use the bus to visit each of these areas during the day.  They can visit the Canada Lake Store, the Pine Lake Pizza and Ice Cream parlor and beach, and events at Shermans.

Accessing the Tower Trail on Green Lake Road

Residents, campers and visitors will be able to access the Kane Mountain trails by parking at the Canada Lake Marina parking lots across from the Canada Lake Store or along the shoulder of Routes 10/29A over the Green Lake bridge.

Hikers can park there and use the Trolley or walk down the Green Lake road to access the trail.

Accessing the Tower from Pine Lake Park

Parking will be available at Pine Lake Park main parking lot on Route 10/29A.

Hikers will be given access to the Kane Mountain Trail from Pine Lake which is located on Wilderness way in the Pine Lake Campground.

****We encourage hikers to visit the Canada Lake Store and Pine Lake Ice Cream and Pizza stand during their visit or go for a swim at the Pine Lake beach.  Many other area merchants may be offering specials during the Centennial so be sure to ask.
