The Mayfield Historical Society will host a presentation by Kelly Farquhar from the Montgomery County History and Archives Department on “The Underground Railroad in Our Area” on Monday, August 16th, at 6:30 at the Mayfield Presbyterian Church, 22 N. Main St., Mayfield, NY. Anti-Slavery Societies were formed in our area starting in 1836 and some members of these Societies were involved in the Underground Railroad. Lazy Eight Radio Control Club will host their 34th Annual Model Airplane Airshow on August 21 and 22 at the clubs flying site located at 144 Knoblauch Rd in the Town of Johnstown. (Behind Roger’s Family Orchards to support their student aviation scholarship program while also promoting public awareness and interest in their sport/hobby. This event is the clubs effort to give back to the community. All proceeds from Saturdays Silent Auction will benefit the clubs annual scholarship given to a local high school student pursuing a career in aviation.
Follow the sighs on N.Y. State Route 29 west of Johnstown. The airshow is open to the public from 9am to 4pm both days. There is a suggested donation of $5.00 per person with children under 12 admitted free. Refreshments will be available. Bring your lawn chairs and cameras for a fun filled day for the entire family.
