  • 5:00:pmCabin Fever Dinner Dance at The Sport Island Pub featuring Johnny & The Triumphs

In the middle of the 20th century a new music came into being. It was a fusion of pop, rhythm and blues and country. It cut across race and class, city and country. No body owned it or controlled it then. They called it rock and roll and music hasn’t been the same since. Johnny and The Triumphs make this kind of music: rockabilly, rhythm and blues and old time rock and roll. They make music to dance to. They are not an imitation 50s band. They are much more the real thing. Without pretense Johnny and the Triumphs capture the feel and spirit and drive of those early years.

Please join Fulton County Regional SPCA’s R.A.S.E. Junior Interns for their very first Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser!
💜 Our Junior Interns (ages 12-16) are learning the financial ins and outs of non-profits this session – including budgeting and fundraising! At the beginning of their session, they were tasked with creating a fundraiser to benefit Fulton County Regional SPCA, including setting a realistic fundraising goal. After much discussion and planning, the interns decided that a pancake breakfast would be best and have set an ambitious goal to raise $500!
🐾 Next up, they will discuss budgeting the fundraised dollars and how they should be distributed within the shelter’s expenses – sponsoring adoption fees, vet bills, medications, community programming, etc.
💚 We are SO excited to support our Interns in this enthusiastic endeavor and hope you will join us in helping them to reach their goal!

  • 6:00:pmVanishing Views: 20th Century Urban Renewal in Gloversville at The Fulton County Museum
    April 17th, 6pm
    $5 donation
Beginning in 1949, the federal government provided grants and loans to cities through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to fund urban renewal projects. This process involved the seizure and demolition of property in an effort to improve infrastructure and modernize cities. In reality, this often meant the destruction of historic structures, and disproportionately affected low-income communities and small businesses. The Empire State Plaza in Albany is perhaps one of the state’s most well-known urban renewal projects, spearheaded by Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller. But smaller cities, like Gloversville, also undertook these projects, for better or for worse.
Utilizing newspaper archives, city records, and other resources, explore the history of Gloversville’s urban renewal projects, from the proposed Midtown Park to the never-completed “ring road.” Learn how these efforts affected the community and take a tour through photos to see just what has changed downtown.
Fulton County Historical Society programs are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

  • ThursdayAug 1st 12:00:amNYS Hall of Fame 12U Tournament at Parkhurst Field
As pitchers and catchers report (on my birthday) it makes everything seem brighter, more optimistic. I await the new season with renewed affection for the game. Soon the youngsters will be practicing for little league.
Working with Dave Karpinski of Parkhurst Field, directly across the street from the NYS New York State Baseball Hall of Fame, we will be hosting 4 tournaments this August , ages 10-12. If you have a team that you would like to enter, contact Dave or myself.
Its similar to the COOPERSTOWN DREAMS PARK experience.
Its all bout the kids. Lets make memories for them. Parkhurst Field is beautiful. Its like a Major League Park for Little Leaguers.
Bringing baseball to youngsters, teaching them the love of the game is one of the best gifts you can give a child. Its an experience they will always treasure.
